HSE Research Seminar on Political Economy Francesco Caselli "Economic growth with worker cooperatives"

HSE International Center for the Study of Institutions and Development (ICSID) and NES Center for the Study of Diversity and Social Interactions are pleased to announce their next joint Research Seminar on Diversity and Development.The event is held jointly with the seminar “Political Economy”.

Johannes Abeler, Norman Sosnow Professor of Economics at the London School of Economics, will present his paper "Economic growth with worker cooperatives" (co-authored by Thomas Brzustowski).

The seminar will take place in the HSE building at 11 Pokrovsky blvd., room S1013, at 5.00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 15, 2019.

Working language of the seminar is English.

Abstract: Persistent increases in inequality, together with stagnation of living standards for large sections of the population, have fuelled political support for alternatives to capitalist enterprises. In this paper we study the dynamic properties of an economy based on worker cooperatives, and compare them qualitatively and quantitatively with the properties of (standard) economies based on capitalist enterprises.
