The ICSID conference is getting closer

On June 7-10 the 10 th  ICSID Conference will be held online. Ekaterina Borisova and John Reuter, the ICSID fellows who were responsible for the Conference organization, answered our questions about the upcoming event.

What topics will be discussed during the Conference? What are the main topics?

Ekaterina: Nine sessions of the Conference program include broad topics devoted to different aspects of political economy in a changing world. For example,Political Elites, Identity and Gender Norms, the Media and Public Opinion, Political Behavior and so on.

John: One of the things that makes the ICSID conference great is the breadth of papers that will be presented. Our conference covers a range of topics in economics, political science, and sociology.  What unites them is the use of advanced methodologies to address big, important social problems.

For the second year in a row the ICSID conference is held online. Did the last year experience in some ways helped you to organize the event more efficiently?

Ekaterina: The last years’ experience helped a lot as we know already how to organize an online event smoothly. I could also add that this year’s June conference is bigger, we even added one more day to accommodate all strong papers.

John: I think that both participants and organizers are becoming more comfortable with online conferences.  They are no replacement for face-to-face conferences which allow for more robust and immersive scholarly exchange.  But online conferences are no longer a novelty, so people understand how to deal with them now.

Who might be particularly interested in the conference? What kind of people you would like to invite?

John: This conference will be of interest to any social scientist, whether they are an undergraduate or distinguished professor.  Many of the papers deal with Russia, so scholars interested in Russian politics and society will have lots to consider, but there are papers covering many other countries as well.

Ekaterina: Current situation with the pandemic does not allow us to make this 10th jubilee conference in a face-to-face mode but we will be happy to share this event with all the interested participants. We welcome all to join our lively discussions and share the great atmosphere that we developed through the ten years of this conference!

A link with a password will be sent to all participants before the beginning of the event. Should you have any questions or require any further information, please contact Valeriya Kotelnikova (vkotelnikova@hse.ru).
