7th Annual SVOC Conference

Andrei Yakovlev, The ICSID Director, presented the paper “Why not fair electoral results but performance in the office is more important for re-election of regional governors in Russia?” at the 7th The Role of the State in Varieties of Capitalism Conference (SVOC).

The study looks into the issue of electoral results, which are vital for the regime even when opposition is suppressed and there is no political competition. How can Kremlin-appointed regional governors boost their chances of re-election?
The paper is based on the findings of the «Research on COVID-19 in Russia's Regions (RoCiRR)» project, which tries to determine how the COVID-19 epidemic and government initiatives have influenced Russians' attitudes and economic well-being.
