International workshop "Douglass North's concept of "limited access orders" and prospects of its use in Russia's researches"
The international seminar was held on November, 2012 with the participation of ISCID’s partners from the USA and Germany. The main purpose of the workshop was to determine the sets of empirical data necessary for the study of Russian institutional dynamics in the framework of the open/ limited access orders approach presented by D. North and his co-authors.
The first section of the project was dedicated to the specifics of the Soviet case, the factors of technical and economic progress in the USSR (especially in the 1920s and 1950s), and the degree and peculiarity of the influence of the Soviet experience on the development of limited access orders both in Russia and in the world. The following sections also discussed the role of violence in Russian and Soviet society, the problems of Soviet elites and industrial policy, especially the Soviet formal organizations for the development of social capital in the USSR and Russia.
