Effects of the evolutionary process on the distribution of productive forces were discussed at the first workshop of the joint Research Seminar series on Diversity and Development by NES Center for the Study of Diversity and Social Interactions and HSE International Center for the Study of Institutions and Development. Andrea Matranga (Universitat Pompeu Fabra, Barcelona; www.andreamatranga.net) presented his paper "Climate-Driven Technical Change: Seasonality and the Invention of Agriculture" at the seminar hosted by the ICSID. The findings of Andrea Matranga’s paper implied that seasonality patterns 10,000 years ago were amongst the major determinants of the present day global distribution of crop productivities, ethnic groups, cultural traditions, and political institutions.
