Workshop on Field Experimentation in Political Economy

Some of the Center’s experts attended a workshop on field experiments in New York on the 18-20th of May, 2011. The seminar was organized by the Columbia Center for the Study of Development Strategies and the Harriman Institute at Columbia University as part of the joint project of the Higher School of Economics and the Harriman Institute for the establishment of the International Centre for the Study of Institutions and Development at the HSE.

Some of the Center’s experts attended a workshop on field experiments in New York on the 18-20th of May, 2011. The seminar was organized by the Columbia Center for the Study of Development Strategies and the Harriman Institute at Columbia University as part of the joint project of the Higher School of Economics and the Harriman Institute for the establishment of the International Centre for the Study of Institutions and Development at the HSE.

The three-day workshop was devoted to the use of field experiments in social sciences, and especially in the field of political economy and the study of reforms.The issues of design, implementation, and analysis of field experiments were covered in presentations of various speakers. The program of the seminar included presentations of about 20 experts on different aspects of the methodology, as well as the participants’ presentation of their own projects for discussion and  proposals.

On behalf of the HSE, the seminar was attended by representatives of the International Centre for the Study of Institutions and Development as well as researchers from various departments of the Higher School of Economics who are interested in applying this methodology in their own studies.
