A workshop: “The Rise of State Capitalism: consequences for economic and political development” organized by ICSID and the European Association for Comparative Economic Studies (EACES) was held at the Higher School of Economics in Moscow on April 10-11, 2019.
Participation in Japanese workshops
ICSID research fellow Fabian Burkhardt participated in two workshops, which were held in Japan and covered political and economic issues in Russia and Ukraine.
Research Seminar on Diversity and Development
Dmitry Veselov, Associate Professor at the HSE Faculty of Economic Sciences, presented his paper "Migration of Russian settlers and the legacy of interregional development in Kazakhstan" at another session of the regular Research Seminar on Diversity and Development.
The second Ghent Russia colloquium
Some of the ICSID researchers took part in The second Ghent Russia colloquium "Russia's political economy since 1992: Back to the future?" that was held at Ghent University (Belgium) on December 11-12, 2018. The topics discussed focused primarily on Russian studies.
Congratulations to Sarah Sokhey, a winner of the Ed A Hewett Book Prize
Sarah Wilson Sokhey, ICSID Associate Fellow and Assistant Professor at the University of Colorado Boulder, received the Ed A Hewett Book Prize for her book "The Political Economy of Pension Policy Reversal in Post-Communist Countries" that was published by Cambridge University Press in 2017.
50th Annual ASEEES Convention
ICSID team members took part in the 50th Annual Convention of the Association for Slavic, East European, and Eurasian Studies. The Convention was held in Boston on December 6-9, 2018.
Conference of the Graduate School for East and Southeast European Studies
ICSID research fellow Fabian Burkhardt took part in the Fifth Annual Conference of the Graduate School for East and Southeast European Studies that was held in Munich on October 25-27, 2018. He presented his paper «On Presidents and Presidencies: Single-Country Studies and Comparative Authoritarianism, the Case of Russia».

HSE International Center for the Study of Institutions and Development (ICSID) and NES Center for the Study of Diversity and Social Interactions held another session of their joint Research Seminar on Diversity and Development on October 9, 2018.
BASEES Uppsala Conference 2018
The Institute for Russian and Eurasian Studies, Uppsala University and the British Association for Slavonic and East European Studies hosted a two-day conference that was held at Uppsala University in the middle of September 2018. ICSID team members Fabian Burkhardt, Noa Buckley and David Szakonyi took part in the Conference and presented their papers.
Research Seminar on Diversity and Development
A new series of the ICSID-CSDSI regular seminar on Diversity and Development started on September 11, 2018. Anand Sokhey's presentation "Beyond Thoughts and Prayers: The Christian Nationalism of the Gun Control Debate" opened the seminar series this new academic year. The event was held jointly with the seminar “Political Economy” and Economic Development and Growth Research Group.
