Understanding Politics behind the Scenes from the Public Appearances of Elites

On Tuesday, May 26, Franziska Keller, Ph.D. candidate at New York University and visiting researcher of the HSE International Centre for the Study of Institutions and Development, presented a report called ‘Shaking hands in public. What elite co-appearances tell us about the politics behind the scenes’. This seminar marks the 9th joint Research Seminar on Diversity and Development hosted by the International Centre for the Study of Institutions and Development and NES Centre for the Study of Diversity and Social Interactions.

Roundtable discussion

On May 19, Law and Public Policy Institute held a roundtable discussion on the topic of “Securing attorneys’  independence: Russian and international practices”. Andrei Yakovlev, director of the ICSID, and Anton Kazun, ICSID junior research fellow, presented their paper “Collective appraisal by attorneys of the quality of law enforcement in Russia as a tool of increasing attorneys’  independence”.

ICSID-CSDSI workshop

On April 28 the International Centrer for the Study of Institutions and Development hosted another seminar held together with NES Center for the Study of Diversity and Social Interactions. This time Professor Evgeny Yakovlev presented a report entitled “How persistent are consumption habits:  Micro-evidence from Russia”  (joint with Lorenz Kueng).

The International Center for the Study of Institutions and Development and NES Center for the Study of Diversity and Social Interactions held anotherjoint Research Seminar on Diversity and Development on March 31, 2015. This time Professor Ruben Enikolopov from New Economic School presented his paper "Winning Hearts and Minds: Evidence from a Field Experiment in Afghanistan".

HSE Enters Second Stage of Project 5-100 a Leader

The Higher School of Economics is among the top four universities ranked by the Council on Enhancing the Competitiveness of Russia’s Leading Universities. HSE is the only university participating in the project to have kept its leading position in the ranking. The university’s Vice Rector, Maria Yudkevich, who also presented HSE’s Roadmap at the Council’s meeting in Tomsk, talks about how the university was able to achieve this and describes what HSE has set as its priorities in the next stage of the fight to enter the list of the world’s strongest universities.

A new article "Current state and problems of the legal society: a view of attorneys", written by IIMS director Andrei Yakovlev and ICSID junior research fellow Anton Kazun, appeared in the "Practice of Law" journal.

Lauren McCarthy, PhD, is Assistant Professor of Political Science and Legal Studies at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, and Associate Research Fellow in the HSE International Center for the Study of Institutions and Development.
