Visiting researchers: who they are?

IIMS and ICSID have been actively implementing the Visiting Researchers Program for a long time. Every year, at least ten researchers from around the world come to Moscow. Most recently, Ashley Blum, a PhD student at the University of California in Los Angeles, visited ICSID and spent almost a month and a half in Moscow. We talked to Ashley and found out what she was studying and whether she enjoyed life in the big city.

Analytics for Management and Economics Conference 2018

Andrei Yakovlev and Yulia Rodionova took part in the conference on quantitative methods in Management and Economics (AMEC 2018) that was held in St. Petersburg on September 21-22, 2018.

BASEES Uppsala Conference 2018

The Institute for Russian and Eurasian Studies, Uppsala University and the British Association for Slavonic and East European Studies hosted a two-day conference that was held at Uppsala University in the middle of September 2018. ICSID team members Fabian Burkhardt, Noa Buckley and David Szakonyi took part in the Conference and presented their papers.

Research Seminar on Diversity and Development

Anand Sokhey became the 1st speaker starting new academic year to present his research at the ICSID-CSDSI regular seminar on Diversity and Development. The seminar was held jointly with the seminar “Political Economy” and Economic Development and Growth Research Group on September 11, 2018.

Participation in the 15th European Association for Comparative Economic Studies Conference

IIMS research fellows presented their papers at the 15th Biannual Conference of EACES, which was held in Warsaw on September, 6-8, 2018.

ICSID research fellow David Szakonyi — 2018 Gabriel A. Almond Award Recipient

The American Political Science Association (APSA) presented the Gabriel A. Almond Award to David Szakonyi at the 2018 APSA Annual Meeting & Exhibition, the world’s largest gathering of political scientists and source for emerging scholarship in the discipline. The award recognizes the best dissertation on comparative politics, and was created in recognition of Gabriel Almond's contributions to the discipline, profession, and Association. Almond's scholarly work contributed directly to the development of theory in comparative politics and brought together work on the developing areas and Western Europe that prevented splintering into an array of disparate areas studies.

European Regional Science Association Congress 2018

IIMS Research fellow Victoria Golikova took part in the 58th ERSA Congress “Places for People: Innovative, Inclusive and liveable Regions” that was held in Cork, Ireland at the end of August.

New publications

Two papers on public procurement prepared by IIMS research fellows were published this week:  "Russian system of public procurement: the law is changing, the issues remain" and "Organizational Forms and "Incentives in Public Procurement: Natural Experiment at a Large Public Sector Organization in Russia" were published in the International Journal of Public Procurement".

Andrei Yakovlev as a guest researcher in Bremen

From August 13 to 25, 2018, IIMS Director Andrei Yakovlev is visiting the University of Bremen on invitation of the Faculty of Business Studies and Economics, working group of Jutta Günther. His visit takes place within the DAAD Eastern Partnership program and serves to continue and intensify joint academic research, exchange and development of future fields of cooperation.

New publication on public procurement

A paper by Andrei Yakovlev, Olga Balaeva and Andrey Tkachenko entitled "Estimation of procurement costs incurred by public customers: a case study of a Russian region" was published in the Journal of Public Procurement. This paper shows how procurement costs can be calculated using a formalized survey of public customers. This methodology was tested with a representative group of public customers operating in one region of the Russian Federation.
